PREP ROUNDUP: Coffee County cross country, Westwood volleyball post strong results Tuesday

The Coffee County cross country team began its season with a preseason race at St. Andrews-Sewanee Tuesday evening.
Freshman Ashleigh Johnson led the Lady Raiders with a 1st-place finish with a time of 22:35. Chloe Hensiek, Lilly Keenan, and Cadence Darden also had top 10 finishes on the way to helping secure a first-place finish for the Lady Raiders.
The boys’ team also got off to a great start with a third-place finish in the team standings. The boys were anchored by strong showings from Aiden Hayes, Wyatt Hess, Samuel Rogers, and Bradley Lazalier.
In the middle school races, the Coffee County Middle School cross country team was led by Nicholas Gonzalez, who finished in third place with a time of 13:37 in the 2-mile race.
Both Coffee County high school and middle school cross country teams will begin their regular season at Siegel High School Saturday. The middle school team will get started in the morning with the Siegel Shine on the Track and the high school team will run in the evening in the Siegel Under The Stars race.

Westwood takes home tri-match
The Lady Rockets picked up a pair of 2-0 home victories Tuesday evening.
Starting off against Fayetteville, Westwood held on to win by set scores of 25-18 and 25-21. The Lady Rockets followed this up against Flintville with a 25-21 victory in the first set before completing the sweep by winning 25-9 in the second set.
Westwood (5-2) continues its home stand with a match against South Lincoln at 5 p.m. Thursday.
