PREP ROUNDUP: CHS volleyball sweeps Grundy in season opener

The Coffee County volleyball team kicked off its 2026 season with a trip to Coalmont to take on Grundy County Monday evening.

The Lady Raiders got the job done in straight sets, winning by set scores of 25-11, 25-14 and 25-12 to open the season with a 3-0 match win over the Lady Jackets.

Andon Selvog finished the match with a team-high five aces. Jenslee Nogodula added three. Blaine Weaver added two aces to finish just ahead of Hayleigh Harris with one.

Selvog also led the team in digs with seven. Harris and Isabelle Saner both added six each. Up next was Nogodula with five digs. Danni Hillis came away with four. Cara Newlin was credited with two digs. Weaver had one.

Hillis took the top spot in kills with eight on the match. Harris came away with seven. Newlin added six kills. Cailey Sturgill and Daisy Kapise both recorded two each. Selvog and Paisley Dyer each had one kill.

Addy Wild had the team’s lone block of the night.

Selvog posted a team-high 15 assists. Saner followed with seven. Nogodula had one assist.

Coffee County (1-0) opens its home slate with a Class 3A District 9 match against Shelbyville Central at 6 p.m. this evening.

HIGH SCHOOL GOLF

CHS takes weather-shortened match over Franklin County

The Coffee County boys’ golf team opened its week with a victory over the Rebels Monday.

Getting through seven holes before a weather cancellation, the Red Raiders finished the day at 11-over as a team to finish below Franklin County’s 15-over.

Levi Rossman led Coffee County at 2-under through seven. Carter Bell and Rylan Melson followed at 4-over, finishing just ahead of Brandon Thomas at 5-over.

On the girls’ side, Karsyn Riddle led the Lady Raiders at 7-over on the day. Karaline Matthews came in at 9-over.

Due to Franklin County having only one girls’ golfer, no team score in the girls’ competition was tallied.

Middle School Volleyball

Westwood 2, Blanche 0

The Lady Rockets got back on track with a straight-set home sweep Monday, winning by set scores of 25-13 and 25-15.

Westwood (6-3) travels to Cannon County for a 5 p.m. match this evening.
