The Coffee County volleyball team opened its week with a home Class 3A District 9 match Tuesday night.

Taking on Lincoln County, the Lady Raiders fell in straight sets to drop to 12-8 overall and 5-3 within district play. The result also gave the Lady Falcons a sweep of the two teams’ regular-season series after taking the first match 3-2 in Fayetteville on August 20.

Coffee County fell into an early 8-1 hole in the first set and was unable keep up with Lincoln County as it continued, ultimately losing the set 25-12.

A close second set followed, with the Lady Raiders taking an early lead and then keeping right with the Lady Falcons as it continued. Tied at 13 apiece, Coffee County briefly retook the lead at 14-13 before Lincoln County proceeded to tie it and retake control on the following point.

The Lady Falcons were able to stay just ahead of the Lady Raiders through the set’s remainder, winning it 25-21 to take a 2-0 match lead.

After another strong start for Lincoln County in the third set, Coffee County was able to break back into it late, at one point cutting the Lady Falcon lead to 17-14. Lincoln County went on to outscore the Lady Raiders 8-4 from there to win the set 25-18 and seal the match.

Andon Selvog, Danni Hillis, Hayleigh Harris, Isabelle Saner, Blaine Weaver and Jenslee Nogodula each had one ace.

Nogodula led the team in digs with 13. Hillis and Harris followed with 10 each. Selvog added eight digs. Addy Wild came away with three, finishing just ahead of Saner with two. Cara Newlin had one dig.

Hillis was the team’s kills leader with 10 on the match. Up next was Harris with six. Newlin and Cailey Sturgill both finished with two kills each. Selvog had one.

Wild took the top spot for blocks with five. Sturgill was credited with two. Hillis and Paisley Dyer each had one block.

Saner led the team in assists with eight. Selvog followed with seven. Nogodula notched three assists. Weaver had one.

Coffee County travels to Murfreesboro to take on Oakland Thursday evening. Start time is set for 6:30 p.m.

Lady Raiders go 1-1 at Rocky Top Classic

Coffee County traveled up to Sevierville over the weekend to take part in the two-day Rocky Classic Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Raiders opened the tournament with a 2-0 loss to West Jessamine (Nicholasville, Ky.) Friday, before bouncing back with a 2-0 win over Tyler (Sistersville, W.Va.) Saturday.
