PREP ROUNDUP: Lady Raiders beat Grundy, recognize player milestones

The Coffee County volleyball team was back in action Wednesday night.

Welcoming Grundy County, the Lady Raiders took care of business with a 3-0 match win over the Lady Jackets. Coffee County won the match by set scores of 25-7, 25-11 and 25-13.

Isabelle Saner led the team in aces with four. Hayleigh Harris and Jenslee Nogodula followed with three each. Andon Selvog, Paisley Dyer and Blaine Weaver each had one ace.

Nogodula took the top spot for digs with 12, finishing just ahead of Harris with 11. Andon Selvog added six digs. Saner and Danni Hillis both came away with four each. Weaver and Cailey Sturgill were each credited with three digs. Dyer brought in two. Daisy Kapise had one dig.

Hillis led the Lady Raiders in kills with 10. Up next were Sturgill, Harris and Addy Wild with five each. Saner picked up three kills. Kenzi Benedict followed with two. Dyer and Weaver each had one kill.

Sturgill, Dyer and Wild all had one block each.

Selvog led the way in assists with 13, finishing just ahead of Saner with 12. Nogodula had three assists.

Prior to the match, Coffee County recognized three players for reaching career milestones.

Nogodula was recognized for reaching 500 digs in a single season, a feat she achieved during Tuesday’s match against Tullahoma.

Hillis was recognized for reaching 500 career digs, a mark she also arrived at during Tuesday’s match against the Lady Cats.

Selvog was recognized for getting to 500 career assists, which she reached against Tullahoma during the two teams’ matchup at the Dream for Weave Southern Slam in Manchester on Sept. 19.

Coffee County (15-13) closes out its regular-season slate with a Class 3A District 9 home match against Lawrence County this evening. Start time is set for 6 p.m.

Westwood falls to Unity at district tournament

The Lady Rockets returned to Fayetteville City to take on Unity in the district tournament Tuesday.

Westwood was unable to keep its postseason journey going, falling 2-0 by set scores of 25-20 and 25-15.

The loss ended Westwood’s season with a third-place district tournament finish.
