Westwood Middle School girls’ soccer kicked off its state tournament journey with a road state sectional matchup Saturday. Taking on Hillsboro Middle School in Franklin, the Lady Rockets’ season ultimately came to an end in a hard-fought battle that finished with a 2-0 loss on penalty kicks.
Scoreless at the end of regulation, Westwood continued to fight through two five-minute overtime periods to leave the game at 0-0. The game went on to penalty kicks from there, with Hillsboro coming out on top for the sectional win.
The loss put Westwood’s final record on the season at 13-2-1. Wins for the Lady Rockets this year included a program-first region title, which they won 1-0 over Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts last Monday.
