PREP ROUNDUP: CHS baseball falls to Shelbyville

The Coffee County baseball team came up short in a close one in Shelbyville Tuesday.
Scoreless after one inning, a pair of runs for the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the second would ultimately be the difference-maker in a 2-0 district loss.
Grayson Sadler was credited with two of the team’s five hits. Boone Floyd, Jaxon Pruitt and Chase Leonard each had one hit.
Leiton Yancer pitched a complete game, finishing with seven strikeouts, seven hits, two runs and one walk.
Coffee County (12-9, 2-2 district) returns home to host Battle Creek Wednesday evening. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
Middle School Softball
Blackman 13, Coffee County 10
A trio of runs in the top of the seventh broke a 10-10 tie and cost the Lady Raiders in a home loss Tuesday.
Coffee County finished with 11 hits, led by Izzy Haynes with three. Addie Haley and Amaya Campbell both added two hits each. Britlyn Jones, Siri Cruz, Kalli Byers and Aubrey Brown each had one hit.
Haley led the way in RBI with three of the team’s nine. Haynes followed with two. Jones, Cruz, Brown and Kayda Ferrell had one RBI each.
Cruz went the distance in the circle, finishing with four strikeouts, 13 hits, 13 runs and two walks over the course of the game.
Coffee County (9-4) remains at home to host Lincoln County at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Moore County 13, Westwood 5
The Lady Rockets fell behind early on the way to a five-inning home loss Tuesday.
Paisley Prater, McKenna Kehely, Harper Hiles and McClayne Finch each had one hit for a team total of four. Kehely, Hiles and Finch also had one RBI each for three on the evening.
Skyleigh Cooper was Westwood’s starting pitcher, coming out in the top of the second inning with two strikeouts, six hits, seven runs and one walk. Kehely took her place, adding nine strikeouts, four hits, six runs and three walks through the game’s remainder.
Westwood (5-6) returns to action with a home game against Community at 5 p.m. Monday.
Middle School Baseball
Harris 14, Westwood 8
Up 8-5 after three innings, six runs for Harris in the top of the fourth cost the Rockets on the way to a home loss Tuesday.
Westwood finished the game with 10 hits, including two each for Logan McKenzie, Casen Francisco, Brock Christian and Jackson Vernon. CJ Chavis Jr. and Griffyn Woods both had one hit each.
The team also finished with six RBI, led by Woods and Vernon with two each. Chavis Jr. and Christian each had one RBI.
Will Levengood got it started on the mound, coming off in the top of the second inning with one strikeout, one hit, four runs and four walks. Christian followed, finishing in the top of the fourth with two strikeouts, two hits, four runs and five walks. Vernon took his place, adding three strikeouts, five hits, six runs and one walk through the top of the fifth inning. Aidyn Jones closed it out from there, striking out three more Harris batters and giving up three more walks.
Westwood (9-8) returns to the road for a game against Lewisburg Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
