The Coffee County baseball team was back on the road for its second game in as many days Tuesday evening.

Traveling to Murfreesboro to take on Riverdale, the Red Raiders were once again left looking for their first win, falling 8-2 to the Warriors.

After Riverdale took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Coffee County tied it in the top of the second when Boone Floyd drove in Davis McKenzie from second base. The Warriors retook a one-run lead in the bottom of the third, but the Red Raiders answered by tying it in the top of the fourth on a ground out from Floyd to bring McKenzie home from second once again.

Riverdale went on to add two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead. The Warriors continued to push ahead from there, adding another four runs in the bottom of the sixth to ultimately seal it.

Coffee County finished the game with three hits, with one each for McKenzie, Floyd and Grayson Sadler. Floyd had both of the Red Raiders’ RBI.

McKenzie got it started on the mound, finishing with seven strikeouts, three hits, four runs and five walks through four innings on the way to taking the loss. Austin Gipson took his place, adding one strikeout, two hits, four runs and one walk until coming off in the bottom of the sixth. Xander Meeks followed through the game’s remainder, striking out one Riverdale batter and allowing one hit.

Coffee County (0-2) will host Smyrna for its home opener at 7 p.m. Friday.
