14-year-old girl seriously injured after shooting in Walker Homes, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured after a shooting Wednesday in the Walker Homes area, police said.

Officers responded to a shooting in the 3500 block of Ashford Road around 4 p.m.

Memphis Police (MPD) said the girl and her boyfriend, a 15-year-old boy, had returned home about 15 minutes earlier after walking to the Mitchell Tiger Market when she heard gunshots.

The boy told police he argued with an old friend at the market and had not seen him in several months following a previous fight.

A witness said she saw a man dressed in all black knock on the door of the home. When no one answered the door, the suspect walked back to the street and fired shots at the house.

According to police, the girl was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The boy was charged with theft of property and unlawful possession of a weapon.
