CHS golf takes district titles

The Coffee County golf team kicked off the postseason with the TSSAA Division I Class AA district tournament at the Bear Trace at Tim’s Ford Monday morning.
Both the boys’ and girls’ teams came home with district championships to complete the sweep, with a team score of 102 for the Lady Raiders on Monday and a 318 for the Red Raiders once they wrapped up on Tuesday.
In the girls’ competition, Karaline Matthews posted a 48 to lead the tournament as an individual. Ella Arnold came away with a 54 to help Coffee County finish one stroke lower than Warren County’s second-place score of 103.
Remaining girls’ team scores included a third-place 124 for Lincoln County, a fourth-place 127 for Columbia Central and a fifth-place 130 for Franklin County.
On the boys’ side, Jack Stowe led the Red Raiders with a 73. Noah Costello shot an 80 to finish just ahead of Levi Rossman at 81. Jaxon Phillips finished the tournament with an 84.
Other boys’ team scores included a second-place tie for Lawrence County and Tullahoma at 328, fourth place for Warren County at 334, fifth place for Franklin County at 350, sixth place for Shelbyville at 386 and seventh place for Lincoln County at 404.
The boys’ top individual scorer was Lawrence County’s Dalton McCawley, who finished the tournament with a 70. Stowe’s 73 earned him a second-place individual finish.
Up next is the Region 4-AA tournament, which will be held once again at the Bear Trace at Tim’s Ford on Monday morning. Tee times are set to begin at 9 a.m.
