The Coffee County Middle School football team closed out its season in the win column Tuesday evening.

Hosting Lewisburg, the Red Raiders took control in the first quarter and never looked back on the way to a 28-8 victory at Carden-Jarrell Field.

Down 8-0 following a Lewisburg touchdown on the game’s first drive, Coffee County responded with a touchdown drive of its own, capping it off with a one-yard punch into the end zone from Kaden Spencer. After initially missing the 2-point conversion attempt, a flag on Lewisburg gave the Red Raiders another shot at it. This time around, Spencer got the ball across the line to tie the game at 8 apiece with 1:54 left in the first quarter.

Spencer continued to make an impact on the other side of the ball, ending the following Lewisburg possession shortly after it started with a 66-yard pick six to give Coffee County the lead. The following 2-point attempt failed, putting the Red Raiders up 14-8 to open the second quarter.

After the first Coffee County drive of the second quarter ended with an interception, the Red Raider defense came away with another pick of its own, this time from Lhane Meeks to set the offense up on the Lewisburg 8. Coffee County pushed its way into the end zone from there, with Andrew Boles running it in the rest of the way on 4th and 1 with 10 seconds left in the half.

Once again, a flag on Lewisburg gave the Red Raiders another shot at the 2-point conversion after missing it the first time around. A successful second try sent Coffee County into halftime ahead 22-8.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Red Raiders forced a turnover on downs on the Lewisburg five-yard line. Two plays later, Meeks ran the ball into paydirt with 3:28 left on the clock. Coffee County continued to hold Lewisburg out of the end zone through the game’s remainder to finish up by 20.

With the win, Coffee County put its season record at 3-5 overall.
