Lady Raiders fall to Columbia at home

After a road matchup at Franklin County to close out the previous week, the Coffee County High School girls’ soccer team was back on its home turf in Manchester Tuesday evening.
Hosting Columbia, the Lady Raiders fell behind early on the way to a 6-1 loss.
The Lady Lions got on the board just under seven minutes into the first half and continued to push further ahead from there, scoring another goal at the 18:13 mark. Columbia was able to add one more goal before halftime, sending Coffee County into the break trailing 3-0.
Columbia once again got off to a quick start as the second half got under way, putting Coffee County in a 4-0 hole just 31 seconds into play resuming.
Trailing by five after another Lady Lion goal around the 25:58 mark, the Lady Raiders were able to get on the board courtesy of a goal from Lilly Matherne with 15:20 left to play.
Matherne’s goal was ultimately Coffee County’s only such opportunity over the course of the evening and helped the Lady Raiders avoid a shutout. Not long after, Columbia responded with its sixth goal of the game at the nine-minute mark, bringing the game to what would be its final score.
Coffee County will be back on the road Thursday, traveling to Tullahoma for this year’s Coffee Cup matchup against the Lady Wildcats.
