Lady Raiders advance to District Semis

Lady Raider softball opened play in the 4A District 9 Tournament with a 10-1 clobbering of the Columbia Central Lady Lions on Monday night in Manchester.

Coffee County was led by senior Paisley Campbell, who went 2-for-4 at the plate and smacked a total of five RBI’s.

Columbia drew first blood in the top of the first inning, scoring what would be their only run of the game on a solo home run by Gabby Bolton.

Savannah Cooper would be the one to deliver a response for Coffee County in the bottom of the third inning, scoring on a double by Paisley Campbell to knot the score at 1-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the defensive dam completely crumbled for Columbia. A double by Haleigh Skipper would send Samantha Johnson home to put the Lady Raiders in front, then Maggie Montgomery scored on a sacrifice fly by Kyndal Bolden to make the score 3-1. Two batters later, Campbell stepped up to the plate and clobbered a fly ball to left field for a grand slam to make the score 7-1 and then two batters after that, Montgomery cycled back through to hit a two-run single and extend the lead even further to 9-1.

Kyndal Bolden tallied a 10th run for the Lady Raiders on a double by Savannah Cooper in the bottom of the fifth inning, and Coffee County held for a 10-1 victory in a six-inning mercy rule.

While Coffee County’s offense got things done at the plate, Lily Norman stood strong in the circle, pitching five complete innings and collecting nine strikeouts. Maddi Scott pitched one inning in relief.
