After four tight games to begin the season, the Coffee County Central soccer team erupted for a 7-0 home victory over district rival Lincoln County on Tuesday night to remain unbeaten.

The Red Raiders were led with a pair of two-goal performances by Junior Petatan-Ramirez and Cayden Trail.

Petatan was the first to strike for Coffee County, finishing off an excellent pass by Manny Gonzales in the second minute of play to give the Red Raiders an early 1-0 lead.

The score remained 1-0 for 21 minutes of game time, then in the 23rd minute, Joan Deanda cleaned up a long range kick by Ethan Sloan to make it a 2-0 lead for the Red Raiders.

Cayden Trail, looking for his first goal of the season, finally broke through in the 38th minute, heading in a corner kick by Joel Barrara to up Coffee County’s advantage to three goals.

Despite limited time remaining in the first half of play, the Red Raiders remained persistent on the offensive end of the field. One minute after Trail’s header, Petatan drew a penalty inside the box and proceeded to nail the penalty kick for his second goal of the match and a 4-0 Coffee County lead.

The Red Raiders’ offensive fireworks were still on full display in the second half, as Manny Gonzales scored on an assist by Cayden Trail in the 50th minute to make the score 5-0.

Trail received credit for his second assist of the night 17 minutes later on a goal by Michael Vieras, and 67 minutes into the match, the Red Raiders were up 6-0, outscoring their offensive output from the first four games combined.

The Red Raiders would tack on another score with five minutes remaining on Trail’s second score of the night, and Coffee County picked up their second victory of the season with a 7-0 final score.

“Our boys played absolutely fantastic, I can’t complain about one thing we did,” said first-year coach Briggs Haithcock. “We had changed our formation a bit after those first few games and we had made some fine-tuning adjustments, but these guys just brought a lot of energy tonight and they just wanted it more.”

With the victory, the Red Raiders improve to 2-0-3 on the season with a 2-0-1 mark in district play.
