Raiders fall to Falcons on Senior Night
S
On Tuesday night, the Red Raiders honored their seniors in a pregame ceremony, but the Lincoln County Falcons spoiled the festivities by handing Coffee County an 11-5 loss.
Scores were hard to come by in the first three innings, then the visiting Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a score by Samuel Smith.
The Falcons proceeded to blow the game wide open with seven runs in the top of the fifth and two additional runs in the top of the sixth inning (courtesy of a two-run homer by Rhett Persell) to take a commanding 10-0 lead.
Coffee County finally reached home plate in the bottom of the sixth inning with Kaysen Lowery scoring on a ground ball single by Davis McKenzie, but the Falcons answered back with a run in the top of the seventh to take an 11-1 advantage into the final half inning.
Not wanting to go away quietly on Senior Night, senior Cole Pippenger blasted a fly ball to center field for his fifth home run hit of the year and sent in fellow classmate Trevor Jesse to make the score 11-3.
Coffee County managed to score two more runs on a pair of doubles by Colter Neel and Landon Abellana, but the offensive fireworks came a little too late and the Red Raiders fell 11-5.
The Red Raiders have now lost six of their last seven games, falling to an overall record of 12-11 with a 3-5 mark in district play.
