Tricky Trail nets three, Raiders down Pioneers

The Red Raider soccer team posted another shutout victory on Thursday night with a 4-0 win over Warren County on the back of a hat trick by senior Cayden Trail.

Defense was the name of the game in the first half, as neither team could break through in the first 25 minutes of game time.

In the 26th minute, Trail broke the scoreless tie with a meticulous, odd-angled shot from the left foot in what would turn out to be the first goal of a three-goal trick.

Trail would find the back of the net again 11 minutes into the second half, heading in a long range throw-in attempt by Logan Geddes to put Coffee County up 2-0.

Momentum was now completely on Coffee County’s side, and 15 minutes after Trail’s second goal, Emmanuel Rodriguez joined in on the fun with a right-footed shot from outside the 18’ on the left wing side for a 3-0 Red Raider advantage.

A three-goal lead couldn’t satisfy a hungry Red Raider offense, and with six minutes remaining in regulation, Cayden Trail completed the hat trick, tipping in a free kick by Patrick Brown to make the score 4-0.

Cayden wasn’t the only Trail to pave the way for a Coffee County victory, as brother Brayden kept the net empty for the Red Raiders’ third consecutive shutout win.

“It was a win, that’s for sure,” said Coach Briggs Haithcock. “I was telling them that the first 70 minutes they didn’t show the intensity I was looking for, but they definitely showed up in the last 10. Going forward from now, I think they’ll start showing that intensity from the start.”

After going scoreless for the first four matches of the season, Cayden Trail has now scored five goals in the last two games.

“I scored 10 goals last year and for the first couple of games this year, I was trying to get my groove back,” Trail said. “I think I’ve found it, and the rest of the guys have been trusting me more to make those plays. Just doing my job.”

The Red Raiders improve to 3-0-3 on the season with a 3-0-1 record against district opponents
