The CCHS softball team played seven games in the span of four days to start the season, including a season-opening win over Oakland and a victory over rival Tullahoma.
March 6 Vs Oakland
On Thursday, the Lady Raiders opened the season with an 8-3 win over Oakland at Terry Floyd Field.
The Lady Raiders couldn’t have asked for a better start to the game with the defense picking up three quick outs in the top of the first inning and the offense scoring four times in the bottom of the frame to put Coffee County up 4-0 in the early stages. All four of Coffee County’s first inning runs could be penned on by the Oakland defense, who allowed two runs by walking batters with the bases loaded and the other two on an error from fielding a pop fly from Madison Waller that opened the door for Savannah Cooper and Maggie Montgomery to score.
Jazmyne Watkins put Oakland on the board in the top of the second inning on a ground out by Kyleigh Higgs, but for the next three innings, the Lady Raiders stayed in control 4-1.
Lady Raider pitcher Lily Norman picked up from where she left off last season, pitching five innings, allowing one run on two hits, committing one error, walking just one batter and striking out 11 batters through 71 pitches.
Yeidy Cruz took over the circle for the next two innings, and despite allowing a two-run homer by Chloe Aaron in the top of the sixth to make the score 4-3, the junior struck out five of the nine batters she faced to help the Lady Raiders secure the win.
The Lady Raider offense would add some extra insurance with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 8-3.
March 7-8 at Megan McCrary Tournament
Following their season-opening win over Oakland, the Lady Raiders took part in the Megan McCrary Tournament hosted by Beech High School at Drakes Creek Park.
Coffee County split the two games they played on Friday, losing to Davidson Academy 5-0 and beating Springfield 8-3.
On Saturday, the Lady Raiders played a trio of games; the first of which resulted in an 11-3 loss to Nolensville where all three runs scored by Coffee County came from a three-run homer by Paisley Campbell in the bottom of the first inning.
The Lady Raiders rebounded with a 10-0 shutout win over White House, but the day ended with a 10-0 loss to Donelson Christian Academy.
March 9 at Tullahoma
In a Sunday matinee, the Lady Raiders picked up a 5-1 road win at rival Tullahoma.
Lilly Norman had a spectacular day on the diamond, hitting two home runs and picking up the win in the pitcher’s circle after pitching all seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out 13 batters.
The Lady Raiders will play host to Siegel on Tuesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. and the District 9 portion of the schedule is set to begin on Wednesday, March 12 against Spring Hill at 6 p.m.
