Haynes resigns as Red Raider football coach

On Monday afternoon, Coffee County Central High School announced that head football coach Roger Haynes has resigned due to health concerns.

Haynes will continue to teach at Coffee County Central High School through the rest of the year and will still help with the football team until a new coach can be found.

“We thank Coach Haynes for his time here at Coffee County as an assistant and then last year as our Head Coach,” The CCCHS Athletic Department said in a statement. “Coach Haynes was an outstanding football mind, who got the best out of his players and helped turn our football program into a playoff contender. He will be greatly missed, but we are excited about the culture he is leaving and we will begin finding a new coach to continue that culture immediately.”

Haynes worked as the team’s defensive coordinator for three of the last four years leading up to the resignation of head coach Doug Greene in August of 2023, after which, Haynes was appointed interim head coach.

The Red Raiders went 1-7 to end the 2023 season and in the offseason, Haynes was appointed head coach.

The Red Raiders rebounded in 2024 with a 5-6 record, including a win in the 99th Coffee Pot Game, an upset win over Blackman and a State Playoffs appearance against Mount Juliet.

Haynes’ resignation is the second departure from the CCCHS football team staff this offseason after offensive coordinator BJ Oliver left in January for a position at Goodpasture Christian School in Nashville.
