Mayor to request I-24 industrial Site rezoning

Coffee County Mayor Dennis Hunt announced he will present a proposal to rezone 1,822 acres of the I-24 Industrial Development from A-1 Agricultural to M-1 General Industrial District  during the the next Coffee County Planning Commission meeting.

The current zoning district of this Tennessee State owned property is A-1 and needs to be changed to Zoning District M-1 to accommodate the intended use of this property.

Hunt said he has communicated with the Tennessee Economic Community Development team regularly.

“We all have agreed that this zoning change will enhance, as well as streamline the transition to any future tenant wishing to purchase property and place facilities in this development,” Hunt said.

Coffee County’s Industrial Board Executive Director Anne Hosea-Majors added, “While we do not have a project ready to locate on the I-24 Industrial Site, the Industrial Board is excited to see the county taking steps forward by having the site appropriately zoned.”

M-1 zones allow general manufacturing, while M-2 Special Industrial Districts uses allow for high impact facilities  that include  firework manufacturing, solid waste processing, waste incinerators, salvage and scrap operations, mining and adult bookstores.
