On Tuesday afternoon, Coffee County Central High School announced that Jon Spears will be the next head coach of the Lady Raider volleyball team.
Spears will become only the third head coach in the program’s history after spending the previous 17 years in an assistant role.
“Coach Spears is ready to get to work to maintain the success and growth of our program,” Coffee County Central High School stated in a press release. “We know that Coach Spears will continue the tradition but also bring a little of his own style to the team. We are excited to get a new era started with Coach Spears.”
Spears’ work at Coffee County Central also includes being an assistant coach of the softball team, a CTE teacher in architecture, engineering, design and STEM and the public address announcer at CCHS home basketball games.
Spears will replace Andrew Taylor, who held the position for the previous 17 years and compiled 320 wins in that span.
Taylor announced his resignation from the position back on Jan. 27, but still remains at Coffee County Central High School as a teacher and the head coach of the Red Raider boys basketball team.
