Barlow places first at MTWOA Grand

CCHS freshman William Barlow placed first in the 144A bracket and four other Red Raiders placed at the Middle Tennessee Wrestling Officials Association Grand Championships on Saturday at Wilson Central High School.
In the 144-pound weight class A bracket, Barlow received a first round bye then went on to beat Ezri Martinez of Northeast by a fall in the quarterfinals, Walker Hobbs of Cheatham County in a 16-15 decision in the semifinals and Brentwood’s Baylor Thurman by a fall in the championship match to place first.
Three other wrestlers placed for Coffee County in the boys tournament: Cameron Kerr placed third in the 113A bracket with a win by a fall over Marcus Claybrooks (Lavergne) in the third place match, Leighton Jennings placed fourth in the 215A bracket after losing in a 9-3 decision to Zion Reese (Stewarts Creek) in the third place match and Tanner Vernon placed fourth in the 285A bracket after losing by a fall to Julian Gutierrez-Arroyo (West Creek) in the third place match.
In the girls tournament, Ellysia Jennings was the only wrestler to place for Coffee County after defeating Madalynn Sepulveda (Rockvale) by a fall in the third place match of the 185-pound weight class bracket.
Here’s a quick rundown of how the rest of Coffee County’s wrestlers finished in the tournament: Boys 120A – Landon Spence lost in the first round of consolations by a fall to Mason Henry (Friendship Christian), Girls 100 – Sophia Rodriguez lost in the fourth round of consolations by a fall to Bailey Leatherwood (Stratford), Girls 120 – Jasmine Norris lost in the fifth round of consolations in a 13-1 major decision to Mariah Currie (Oakland), Girls 132 – Aime Miller lost in the fourth round of consolations by a fall to Adsila Holman (Rockvale).
Coffee County was slated to host Blackman and Riverdale in a girls only tri-meet on Tuesday, Jan. 21, but the meet was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances with no makeup date scheduled. The Red Raiders will host St. Andrews-Sewanee and Upperman in their final home meet of the season on Tuesday, Jan. 28 starting at 6 p.m.
