Coffee County sweeps Lincoln in district battle

The No. 2 Lady Raiders defeated the No. 7 Lady Falcons 61-51 in a statewide top 10 battle while the Red Raiders returned to the win column with a 62-48 victory over the Falcons on Friday night in Manchester.

CCHS Lady Raiders: 61, Lincoln County Lady Falcons: 51

Last time out, the Lady Raiders picked up a 74-41 road win over Warren County on Tuesday night to improve their unbeaten record to 21-0.

The Lady Raiders played Lincoln County a total of four times last year, with Coffee County winning all four of those matchups. Both teams made the 4A State Tournament last season, and entering Friday night’s clash, both teams were ranked in the top 10 of Class 4A.

In the Friday night battle, each team would score 10 points in the opening quarter, then the Lady Raiders outscored the Lady Falcons 13-8 in the second to pull ahead 23-18 at the half.

Coffee County would outscore Lincoln 14-11 in the third quarter, then the Lady Raiders iced the game in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Lady Falcons 24-22 (15 of the 24 points coming off of free throws) to win the game 61-51.

With the win, the No. 2 Lady Raiders move to 22-0 on the regular season with a 4-0 record in 4A District 9 play.

CCHS Red Raiders: 62, Lincoln County Falcons: 48

After scoring a season-low 24 points in a road loss to Warren, the Red Raiders were looking to rebound with a win over Lincoln County.

In their previous matchup against the Falcons, which occurred in the 4A District 9 Semifinals on Feb. 17 of last year, the Red Raiders won 52-40.

In Friday night’s matchup, the Red Raiders got off to a good start, outscoring the Falcons 20-12 in the first quarter with the help of 11 points from senior Jaiden Warren, then in the second quarter, Coffee outscored Lincoln 15-13 for a 35-25 advantage at halftime.

Despite the Falcons outscoring the Raiders 12-10 in the third, Coffee County ran away in the fourth quarter for a 62-48 victory.

The Red Raiders are now 8-11 on the season with a 2-2 mark in district play.
