Airsoft gun, knife found on CCCHS student

Coffee County Interim Director of Schools Prater Powell announced Dec. 20 that a Coffee County Central High School student was found to be in possession of an Airsoft airgun and a knife.

“This morning, a Coffee County Central High School School Resource Officer received an anonymous report that a student might have a gun in his backpack,” Powell said.

“The SRO moved swiftly to remove the student and his belongings from class.  Upon questioning and search of the student by school administration, it was determined that the student possessed an airsoft pistol and a knife in his backpack,” Powell said.

The incident is under further investigation but there is no indication that the student posed a threat to students and staff.

An airsoft gun is a replica firearm that shoots small plastic pellets, called BBs, using compressed air. They are designed to look like real guns, but are not powerful enough to kill someone. Airsoft guns are used for target shooting and casual wargames.
