Lady Raiders beat Westwood on Eighth Grade Night

The Coffee Middle Lady Raiders and Westwood Lady Rockets each concluded their regular season schedule after meeting each other on Thursday night with Coffee County winning 2-0.

Before the game, Lady Raiders Harper Crosslin, Taley Hardin, Briley Jernigan, Brylyn McAdams, Keyla Morales, Jenslee Nogodula, Avery Pruitt, Kinsley Pruitt, Genna Sadler and Kenzie Vandiver were recognized in the Eighth Grade Night ceremony.

Apart from the Eighth Grade Night festivities, the game was also held as Cancer Awareness Night, where the two teams raised $1580 in proceeds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Coffee County would hold a narrow 10-9 lead at the start of the first set, then race out to a 20-10 lead before Westwood called a timeout. The Lady Raiders would go on to win the first set 25-14.

The game’s second set was also very close in the beginning with the score being tied 7-7 before Coffee County went on a run to pull ahead 15-7.

Westwood cut the deficit down to 15-12, but Coffee County was able to finish things off with a 25-16 victory.

The JV contest went a bit differently, as Westwood came back from losing the first set to win 2-1 with a 15-13 victory in the third set.

The Lady Raiders end the regular season with a 13-1 record and will be the #1 seed when they travel to Tullahoma to take part in the CTC Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Westwood finishes the regular season at 9-4 and will take part in the DRVC Tournament next week.
