Parsley resigns from CC School Board

Coffee County Schools Board of Education Member Brent Parsley resigned his position on the board effective August 14.
In a letter with the same date addressed to Director of Schools Dr. Charles Lawson, then Board Chairman Dr. Gary Nester, administrative assistant Melissa Westmoreland and other members of the school board, district employees and staff, Parsley said that his resignation is a direct result of a recent move that places him outside the boundaries of the districts he represented.
Parsley began his term representing Board Seat 2, Districts 2, 6 and 7 in September 2022. Following his move, Parsley now resides in Seat 1, Districts 1, 3 and 4.
Parsley said he spoke with board attorney Chuck Cagle as well as Election Director Andy Farrar regarding the issue before making his decision to resign.
Parsley said that while there are different interpretations regarding the issue, “this is the right thing to do and will give time for someone to qualify to be on the November ballot and be elected for the seat.”
“I have enjoyed my past two years on the board and wish you all only the best in the future. It may be in my future to run in two years for the district I now reside in,” he wrote.
Parsley’s new district is currently represented by Board of Education members Thomas Ballard and Freda K. Jones.
