On Tuesday, July 30, Coffee County Central’s Araya Hughes signed with the University of Tennessee Southern to play college golf for the Firehawks.

“When I toured there, I knew it was the school for me,” said Hughes. “I really like the people and the coaching staff there. Everything kind of fell into place for me to go there and I think it’s a really good school.”

Hughes plans on majoring in psychology with a career path as a prosecution attorney or defense attorney.

Hughes was a member of the Lady Raider golf team for the last four years, making good memories with her teammates along the way.

“I made some really good friends while I was on the team,” she said. “Some of my best memories were going out to eat with the team after tournaments.”

Moving on to the college ranks, Hughes is excited for the new challenges and experiences that awaits her.

“I’m looking forward to new experiences and meeting new people,” she said. “I’m also looking forward to playing with people at a higher level, playing on more courses and seeing what else is out there.”
