Lady Raiders win Area Championship

On Thursday evening, the Coffee Middle Lady Raiders won the AA Area 6 Tournament Title with a 4-3 victory over Franklin County.

The Lady Raiders would take control at the start, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning with Kenzie Shelton scoring on a single by Bailey Hale, Hale scoring on an error by the Franklin County defense and Allie Raines scoring on a fly out by Briley Apicella to give Coffee County an early 3-0 lead.

Franklin County would chip away at the lead in the top of the third inning, scoring two runs to make the score 3-2.

The score wouldn’t change until the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Lady Raiders scored with Taley Hardin on a sacrifice fly from Payton Thomas to make the score 4-2.

The Rebelettes would score in the top of the seventh inning to get back within a run, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Lady Raiders held on for the 4-3 win.

For Coffee County, Briley Apicella and Payton Thomas each had one hit and one RBI and Kenzie Shelton, Bailey Hale and Briley Jernigan each had one hit.

Apicella would get the start in the circle, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out two batters on 54 pitches. Jernigan would pitch 1.2 innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits and striking out one batter on 19 pitches.

The Coffee Middle Lady Raiders will continue the postseason in the Sectional Tournament as the #1 seed from Area 6.
