On Thursday, Coffee County senior Xavier Randolph won Coffee County’s first State Championship since 2004 after placing first in the AAA Discus Event at the TSSAA State Championships held at MTSU’s Dean A. Hayes Stadium.
Randolph threw the discus a distance of 184 feet, 4 to beat Bryce Thompson of Farragut, who managed a distance of 159 feet, 1 inch.
It is the first time any Coffee County athlete has won a State Championship since Alan Knox won the 3200 meter run in the 2004 State Championships.
“It feels good to be a State Champion,” said Randolph. “I’ve put so much work in to the point where I’ve hurt myself, but God is good.”
Randolph also qualified for the shot put event, but placed second with a distance of 51-11 to Bryce Thompson’s 61-5.75.
It was also the second State Championship appearance for Randolph, who participated in the 2023 State Championships and placed fifth in the discus event and sixth in the shot put event.
