Myers signs with Cumberland University

On Friday, CCCHS senior Blayne Myers signed his letter of intent to play college football with the Cumberland University Phoenix.
“They pursued me more than any other college offer that I had,” said Myers. “It’s also close to home and the place that I wanted to be at the most.”
Myers says that he plans on a career in engineering.
For the Red Raiders, Myers played defensive end, defensive tackle as well as a few snaps at fullback last season, and he was selected to play in the TSSAA East Vs West All Star Game back in December of 2023.
Myers not only succeeded on the football field at Coffee County, but also on the wrestling mat, qualifying for the State Championships back in February.
“Wrestling really helped me out,” he said. “It’s a tough sport and I feel like it helped with my conditioning as well as my footwork, which is important for a lineman.”
“Blayne is a great kid,” said Red Raider Football Coach Roger Haynes. “Every day, he went to work in the weight room and in practice. He’s been a great leader and a dominant player on the defensive side of the ball for us in the last three years. He’s a special kid and I think Cumberland is getting an absolute steal with him.”
