Lady Rockets place third in DRVC Tournament

On Saturday, Westwood’s run in the DRVC Tournament came to an end after losing to Cascade 9-2 in the final game of the loser’s bracket.
Westwood: 12, Liberty: 0
In the second round of the loser’s bracket, the Lady Rockets were pitted against the Liberty Lady Patriots.
The Lady Rockets would get off to a fast start, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Westwood scored one more run in the second inning then erupted for four more runs in the third, winning the game 12-0 in a three-inning mercy rule.
Westwood: 13, Cannon County: 6
For their next game, the Lady Rockets were matched up with the Cannon County Lionettes.
Westwood scored three runs in the opening inning and one run in the top of the second, but the Lionettes scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning, making the score 4-4 through the first two innings of play.
From the third inning onward, the game would be all Westwood, as the Lady Rockets scored five runs in the third inning, including a two-run home run by Shaylee Meadows, and Westwood led 9-4 going into the bottom of the third inning.
Cannon County would score twice in the bottom of the third, but Westwood outscored them 4-0 the rest of the way to win the game, 13-6.
Westwood: 2 , Cascade: 9
In the final game of the loser’s bracket, Westwood met the Cascade Lady Champions, who beat the Lady Rockets 8-0 in their first round game on Apr. 25.
The Lady Champions would take an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, then explode for six runs in the second inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
Westwood scored one run in each the third and fourth innings, and had 10 hits in the game, but they couldn’t overcome the commanding lead of Cascade and the Lady Champions would win the game 9-2.
With the loss, the Lady Rockets placed third in the tournament, having placed fourth in the regular season standings.
Two players from Westwood received All-Conference awards: Annie Carden and Maddie Scott.
The Westwood Lady Rockets end the season with an 8-7-1 overall record.
