Lady Raiders lose final two games of Border Battle

On Saturday, the CCCHS Lady Raiders lost their final two games of the Lincoln County Border Battle against Ardmore and Giles County.

Coffee County: 1, Ardmore (AL): 8

In their first game of the day, the Lady Raiders were pitted against the Ardmore Tigers out of Ardmore, Alabama.

The Tigers would dominate the game from the opening pitch, scoring two runs in each of the game’s first two innings, then adding an additional run int the third to lead 5-0 through three innings of play.

Coffee County would get on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning with Harper Jernigan scoring on a line drive single by Taylor McBride to make the score 5-1, but the Tigers would score another three runs in the bottom of the fifth to win the game by a final score of 8-1.

Along with McBride’s fifth inning single, Willow Carden, Savannah Cooper, Haleigh Skipper and Kara Wheeler each had one hit for Coffee County.

Skipper would be credited with the loss on the mound, getting credit for 4.1 innings pitched while allowing eight runs on 10 hits, committing two errors and walking one batter on 73 pitches.

Coffee County: 0, Giles County: 8

For their final game of the tournament, the Lady Raiders played against the Giles County Lady Cats.

Giles County would score twice in the top of the first inning to open the scoring and from that point on, the Lady Cats stayed in control, scoring twice more in the third inning to go up 4-0 before doubling their lead in the fourth to win the game 8-0.

Coffee County would manage only one hit from Cara Newlin and Yeidy Cruz would get the loss in the circle, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits, committing four errors, striking out four batters and walking another four on 67 pitches. Kaylee Buckley would pitch 1.2 innings in relief, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out two batters and walking two on 47 pitches.

The Lady Raiders are now 14-8 on the season and will take on Lincoln County in Fayetteville for a district game on Sunday, Apr. 21 at 2:30 pm.
