Rockets swept by Moore County in doubleheader

On Monday, the Westwood Rockets took on Moore County in a doubleheader, dropping both games to the Raiders.

Westwood Rockets: 3, Moore County Raiders: 6

The first game of the day would be scoreless through the first inning, then the Raiders struck first in the top of the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead.

Moore County would score three more runs in the top of the third before Westwood got on the scoreboard with a Davion Dycus single that sent Luke Christian home to make the score 4-1.

Westwood scored again in the bottom of the fourth inning to draw within two, but the Raiders scored twice more in the top of the fifth to lead 6-2.

The Rockets would score one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it wouldn’t be enough and Moore County won the first game, 6-3.

Davion Dycus had two RBIs on two hits, Mason Hastings had one RBI and CJ Chavis, Tucker Linzey, Brock Christian and Luke Christian each had a hit for the Rockets.

Hastings would be credited with the loss on the mound, allowing six runs on 11 hits, striking out three batters and walking one on 81 pitches.

Westwood Rockets: 0, Moore County Raiders: 11

In the second game of the day, a big third inning fueled Moore County to another win.

The Raiders scored once in each the first and second innings to lead 2-0 through two innings of play, then exploded for nine runs in the third inning and went on to win 11-0.

The Rockets could only manage one hit each from CJ Chavis and Cole Williams.

Brady Christian would get the loss on the mound, pitching over two innings, allowing eight runs on five hits, striking out two batters and walking four on 64 pitches.

Westwood is now 5-6 on the season and they will play host to Community on Thursday, Mar. 28 at 5:30 pm.
