Lady Raiders get first win of the year over Forrest

After their first few games of the year had been postponed due to weather, the Coffee Middle Lady Raider Softball Team won their first game of the season at Forrest on Thursday night.
The Lady Raiders would score first in the top of the first inning, as Briley Jernigan batted in Bailey Hale on a double and the Lady Raiders led 1-0 through the first inning.
Forrest would score a run of their own in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1, then the Lady Raiders struck back in the top of the third, as Genna Sadler reached on a ground ball which allowed Bailey Hale to score her second run of the game and give Coffee County a 2-1 lead.
The Lady Rockets would score two runs in the bottom of the third and take the lead, 3-2, but it wouldn’t last long, as the Lady Raiders exploded for six runs in the fourth inning, taking an 8-3 lead.
Each team would score once more in the fifth inning, but the Lady Raiders held on to win, 9-4, outhitting Forrest 9-6.
Briley Jernigan finished the game with one run and three RBIs on three hits, Briley Apicella had one run and an RBI on two hits, Allie Raines scored a run and had an RBI with one hit, Bailey Hale finished the game with three runs, McKenzie Shelton had one hit and scored two runs and Paige Chilton scored one run.
Jernigan also got the win on the mound for the Lady Raiders, pitching in all seven innings, striking out four batters and walking two on 101 pitches.
The Lady Raiders will play Forrest at home in their next contest on Monday, March 11.
