On Thursday night, the Lady Raiders ended the regular season with a perfect district record while the Red Raiders wrapped up their season as District Champions.

With the Coffee County Lady Raiders having already clinched the Regular Season District Title against Lincoln County, the Lady Raiders looked to end the regular season with a win over Spring Hill.

The Lady Raiders would start things off with a 16-0 run before outscoring Spring Hill 22-10 in the first quarter.

Spring Hill fought back in the second, but Coffee outscored them 16-11 to lead at halftime, 38-21.

The Lady Raiders would pour it on in the third, outscoring Spring Hill 26-11 to lead 64-32 heading into the fourth.

Coffee’s bench unit played well in the fourth quarter as the Lady Raiders held on for the win, 74-54.

“We had lost four starters from last year’s Region Semifinal team who all went to play college ball and you never know how the younger kids are going to step up,” said Coach Joe Pat Cope. “I’m just proud of the way this team has played this year and 26-3 is a heck of a record. Going into tournament play, we have to keep playing hard-nosed defense, shoot the ball well and win the turnover and rebound battles.”

Scoring for the Coffee County Lady Raiders in their final regular season outing were Olivia Vinson with 19 points, Channah Gannon with 14 points, Jules Ferrell and Natalie Barnes with 12 points each, Audri Patton and Reece Finch with six points each, Jaydee Nogodula with three points and Ella Arnold with two points.

The Coffee County Lady Raiders close out the regular season with a 26-3 overall record and District 9 Regular Season Champions with a perfect 10-0 record in district play.

Meanwhile, the Red Raiders were looking to close out their district slate as Regular Season Champs with a win.

The Red Raiders doubled up Spring Hill at the start, outscoring the Raiders 16-8 in the first quarter.

Coffee County was red hot in the second quarter, hitting five three pointers while outscoring Spring Hill 17-8 to take a 33-16 lead into halftime.

The Red Raiders continued to control the game in the third quarter, outscoring Spring Hill 13-7 for 46-23 lead heading into the fourth, where the bench unit finished things off with a 61-38 win.

“Early on this season we didn’t have much experience, played some really good opponents and took our lumps,” said Coach Andrew Taylor. “But, we’ve grown since then. Our offense is learning what a “great” shot is as opposed to a “good” shot, defensively we’ve settled in and communicated better and rotated better and we’ve been following the scouting report better. When it comes to tournament basketball it comes down to defending the final possession or scoring on the final possession. You have to understand the time, scoring, possession, understanding who you have to stop on the other team and then where you get the ball to. Winning the District title is fantastic, but we need to take advantage of it in the tournament.”

Scoring for the Red Raiders in the final game of the regular season were Cooper Reed with 14 points, Brady Wright with 11 points, Caleb McCall with nine points, Jackson Shemwell, Camden Hunt and Courtland Farrar with six points each, Luke Campbell with three points, Jaiden Warren and Cayden Trail with two points each and David Lewis and Jayden Carter with one point each.

The Red Raiders clinched the Regular Season District Championship with an 8-2 record and finished the regular season with a 17-11 overall record.

Coffee County Basketball will return to host the 4A District 9 Tournament next week.
