Bell

Mrs. Mildred Bell, age 98, passed away on Feb. 7, 2024, at Autumn Oaks in Manchester. She was born in Ashland, Oklahoma on February 22, 1925, to Charles and Ellie Goodman. They moved to Mena, Arkansas when Mildred was a small child. She attended Acorn High School and graduated as Valedictorian of her class. After graduation, she worked at Polk County Memorial Hospital in Mena, later moving to Dallas, Texas where she worked for Baylor University in Payroll. She and her husband Wilburn met at Oak Cliff Baptist Church in Dallas. They married and moved to Manchester where Wilburn worked for AEDC, and Mildred worked for 1st National Bank for several years. She later worked for Carrier Air Conditioning in Morrison, Tennessee, where she retired. Wilburn and Mildred were members of First Baptist Church in Manchester, where she taught Children’s Sunday School for many years. She and Wilburn also helped get Beech Grove Baptist Church started, and she taught Children’s Sunday School there for a few years. They also helped build Boynton Valley Baptist Church, and taught Sunday School there for a number of years. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Ellie Goodman, by two brothers, Grady and L.C. Goodman, two sisters, Rose Ferguson and Jewell Goodman, and by her loving husband Wilburn. She is survived by one sister Lucille Goodman Ragland, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Graveside services was held Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Tullahoma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mildred Bell’s memory to the Good Samaritan Food Fund in care of First Baptist Church in Manchester, TN.
