Songwriters looking to showcase their talent have a chance to stage Saturday, Feb. 3, during the qualifying rounds for the fifth annual Tennessee Songwriters Week at Common John Brewing Company
Showtime for the 2024 Tennessee Songwriters Week Qualifying Round is 3 p.m. at the brewery, located at 210 Woodbury Hwy in Manchester. The Oldham Theater in Winchester will also be hosting the Tennessee Songwriters qualifying round on Mon, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m.
Songwriters looking to signup can go to www.tnvacation.com/songwriters-week and scroll down to “Middle Tennessee Qualifying Rounds” and find “Manchester – Feb. 3, 2024” on the website.
Qualifying rounds start Jan. 21 through Feb. 3 and are hosted by over 40 venues throughout the state of Tennessee. During the qualifying round, eligible songwriters are given the opportunity to play original work. A panel of judges will select a number of songwriters to advance based on each region of the state. 140 songwriters will then move forward to the Tennessee Songwriters Week Showcase events in seven cities: Chattanooga, Franklin, Gatlinburg, Johnson City, Knoxville, Memphis and Portland.
Then, following the completion of the Tennessee Songwriters Week round, set for the week of Feb. 18 through 24, a panel of judges will name seven winners, one from each of the seven venues. If a tie for first place results at any Tennessee Songwriters Week round venue, the panel will deliberate as a group in the presence of a Tennessee Department of Tourist Development team member to determine a winner based upon the above categories. The seven winning entrants will play their original song at The Bluebird Cafe on March 24, which will be determined by The Bluebird Cafe, and will receive a poster to commemorate the experience.
According to Tennessee Vacation, Tennessee Songwriters Week is a celebration of “the songwriters and craft that put Tennessee on the map,” helps to support music venues, to generate awareness of songwriters’ contributions to the state, paves the way for future artists and inspires travelers to experience the state’s music stories, history, attractions and venues.
