While still suffering a loss, the Red Raiders still managed a positive from their defeat Friday night: an end to their shutout streak. Coffee County Football fell 31-7 to Rockvale on Friday, Sept. 29.

In the first quarter, the Raiders made it all the way to Rockvale’s five-yard line. A fumble stalled the drive and resulted in an attempted field goal. The kick was blocked and Rockvale returned it for a touchdown with 5:52 left in the first.

Following in the second quarter, Xavier Randolph returned the favor on special teams when he blocked a Rockvale punt and continued all the way to Rockvale’s 11 yard line. Then, another costly fumble allowed Rockvale to grab the ball and score their second touchdown of the game.

Rockvale then scored their only offensive touchdown of the first half, a testament to how hard the Red Raider defense fought all night. At halftime, the Raiders were down 21-0. Rockvale continued its dominance into the second half of play, and it looked like another shutout for Coffee County– until with only 2:37 left on the clock. Caiden Martin broke the Raider’s shutout streak with a touchdown from seven yards out.

The Raiders are on a bye this week but return to the field to battle powerhouse Oakland Friday, Oct 15.
