A single-vehicle accident involving a Coffee County Schools bus Sept. 26 resulted in one student being transported to the hospital.

Director of Schools Dr. Charles Lawson said Wednesday that the bus transporting students from Coffee County Middle School to Deerfield Elementary was involved in a traffic accident.

“District officials worked with Tennessee State Troopers and local law enforcement to resolve the situation,” Lawson said. “One student was transported to the hospital by EMS to be evaluated.”

Coffee County Director of Transportation Tim Morris said that in the event of an accident involving students, response protocols include each rider being placed in their seat, names logged and their medical condition checked out.  Parents are all notified and the bus driver is drug tested.

Morris said that the 10-year-old bus involved in the accident would be completely inspected by the Tennessee Highway Patrol once repaired before returning into service.
