PREP ROUNDUP: CHS volleyball falls, Westwood football rolls in Thursday matchups

The Coffee County volleyball team’s undefeated start to the season came to an end in Fayetteville Thursday evening.
Taking on Lincoln County in a Class 3A District 9 matchup, the Lady Raiders fell in a 3-2 battle.
After dropping the first set 25-13, Coffee County bounced back with a 25-23 win in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. The Lady Falcons followed this up with a 25-14 win in the third set, but the Lady Raiders answered right back once again with a 25-16 win in the fourth set. A close fifth set followed, with Coffee County falling just short in a 15-13 loss.
Andon Selvog, Danni Hillis and Hayleigh Harris all had three aces each. Isabelle Saner followed with two aces. Blaine Weaver and Addy Wild each had one ace.
Jenslee Nogodula led the team in digs with 20 on the match. Harris followed with 10, finishing just ahead of Hillis with nine. Selvog and Saner both came away with four digs each. Wild, Cara Newlin and Cailey Sturgill each had one.
Hillis was the team’s kills leader, finishing the match with 13. Up next was Harris with 12. Newlin was credited with four kills. Sturgill and Saner both added two each. Selvog had one kill.
Wild led the team in blocks with two. Hillis, Newlin, Harris and Paisley Dyer each had one.
Saner led the way in assists with 17. Selvog notched 15. Nogodula had two assists.
Coffee County (2-1, 1-1 district) travels to Murfreesboro to take part in the Cougar Classic at Middle Tennessee Christian School Saturday.
MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL
Westwood 40, Liberty 7
The Rockets kept their undefeated start to the season in check with a dominant home win Thursday night.
After getting on the board on a pick six for Jake Hosea on the game’s opening drive, Westwood added to its lead shortly after on its first possession with a touchdown run for Brentley Brown.
Berott Clem ran in for another touchdown shortly before the end of the first quarter, ultimately sending the Rockets into the second quarter up 20-0.
Westwood went on to add 20 more points before the game’s conclusion while holding Liberty to seven points in this span as well.
Westwood (4-0) gets back on the road to take on Fayetteville Thursday. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
