The Coffee County girls’ soccer team closed out its regular-season schedule with a dominant home win Wednesday evening.

Hosting Cannon County for their senior night, the Lady Raiders sent off their graduating class with a 6-0 victory over the Lady Lions.

Lilly Matherne got it started with a goal eight minutes in to put Coffee County on the board early. The senior followed this up with another goal at the 28:36 mark to put the Lady Raiders up by two.

Matherne went on to send another shot into the net with 11:44 remaining in the half to secure the hat trick less than 30 minutes into the game’s start. Kayda Ferrell continued to keep Cannon County of the net through the first half’s remainder to ensure the team went into the break up 3-0.

Matherne continued her dominant offensive effort in the second half, scoring with 29:12 left to play to make it a 4-0 Coffee County lead. Matherne went on to add her fifth goal of the night less than five minutes later to continue the routing.

Fellow senior Abigail Bellamy followed this up with another Lady Raider goal with just over 13 minutes remaining, while Ferrell and the Lady Raider defense continued to keep Cannon County out of the net to preserve the shutout.

With the win, Coffee County’s final regular season record stood at 5-8-2 overall.

The Lady Raiders now turn their attention to the Class 3A District 6 tournament, which they will open on the road against Columbia Thursday. Columbia took the regular-season meeting between the two teams, 4-2, on September 29th.

Start time for the district tournament rematch is set for 6 p.m.
