Manchester VFW Post 10904 receives Governor’s Volunteer Stars Award

M anchester’s Veterans of Foreign Wars All-American Post 10904 recently received the 2025 Governor’s Volunteer Stars Award (GVSA) for nonprofit organization, for the East Tennessee Region.

The Post was formally recognized at the annual GVSA celebration banquet in Franklin on March 8. In addition to recognizing one top volunteer in each county, one exceptional business and nonprofit organization is recognized from each of Tennessee’s three Grand Regions–East, Central, and West–for outstanding community service and support.

VFW Post 10904 Commander Kimberly King recalled from the phone call, “every available vote we could get, we got. It was a unanimous vote. It’s all of us combined, it really is… to have somebody recognize you like this, over God-knows-who… in all of East Tennessee, we got that in our little Post?”

The roughly 200 members of Manchester’s record-shattering, history-making VFW Post 10904 performed over 200 community service events last year alone.

They lead the state in community service hours reported and have received VFW’s Department of Tennessee All-State Post designation for eight consecutive years; VFW National’s All-American Post designation for seven consecutive years; the VFW Department of Tennessee Community Service Award multiple times; as well as four VFW National Awards of Merit.

“More than mere quantity of community service, the quality and impact of their volunteer efforts is what sets VFW Post 10904 apart from everyone else… and they have fun doing it,” King said.
