CHS boys’ soccer takes care of Columbia

Coffee County boys’ soccer won its home opener in dominant fashion Thursday night.

Hosting Columbia for a district match, the Red Raiders came out on top for a 6-2 victory over the Lions.

The win was Coffee County’s second straight in district play following Tuesday’s 2-1 road victory over Lincoln County.

Coffee County (3-4, 3-1 district) remains at home to host Shelbyville for another district matchup at 7 p.m. next Thursday.

Westwood 8, Tullahoma East 4

The Lady Rockets picked up their third win of the week on the road in Tullahoma Thursday.

Paisley Prater and Addison Dinwiddie each had one hit for a team total of two.

Westwood posted seven RBI over the course of the game, led by Maleah Chavis and McClayne Finch with two each. Elly Wild, Callie Kapise and McKenna Kehely each had one.

In the circle, Skyleigh Cooper went through the first three innings and finished with four hits, four runs and three walks. Kehely took over in the bottom of the fourth inning, striking out eight and holding Tullahoma East to one hit and two walks through the game’s remainder.

The win put Westwood at 4-4 on the season.


Lincoln County 10, Coffee County 0

The Lady Raiders’ six-game winning streak ended with a road loss in Fayetteville Thursday.

Coffee County finished with three hits, including one each for Addie Haley, Izzie Haynes and Siri Cruz.

Cruz was the Lady Raiders’ starting pitcher, but came out in the bottom of the first inning with one hit, four runs and three walks. Amaya Campbell took her place, adding three strikeouts, six hits and six runs through the game’s conclusion.

The loss put Coffee County at 9-3 on the season.

TUESDAY, MARCH 31 RESULTS Middle School Baseball

Coffee County 12, Battle Creek 9

The Red Raiders returned to action with a high-scoring road victory last Tuesday.

The team finished with 14 hits, led by Mason Floyd and Braxton Swack with three each. Tripp Trussler and Cooper Melton followed with two hits each. Bentley Ater, Aiden McNeese, Tyler Campbell and Lawson Maychrzak each had one hit.

Swack brought in five of the Red Raiders’ nine RBI. Trussler, McNeese, Melton and Maychrzak had one RBI each.

Swack pitched the first two innings, finishing with three strikeouts, three hits, seven runs and five walks. Floyd followed from there, adding three strikeouts, two runs and five walks until coming off in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ater took his place, closing it out with two strikeouts, one hit and one walk.

The win put Coffee County at 5-3 on the season.


Westwood 13, Cannon County 11

The Rockets picked up their second home win in as many days in another close game last Tuesday.

Westwood posted 11 hits, including two each for Max Stewart, Casen Francisco and Jackson Vernon. CJ Chavis Jr., Brock Christian, Luke Christian, Will Levengood and Owen Holder each had one hit.

The Rockets also finished the game with 11 RBI, led by Francisco with three. Chavis Jr. and Luke Christian followed with two each. Stewart, Holder, Vernon and Brock Christian each had one RBI.

Levengood got it started on the mound, coming off in the top of the sixth inning with two strikeouts, seven hits, eight runs and two walks on the way to earning the win. Stewart came on in relief, adding three strikeouts, one hit, three runs and one walk through the game’s remainder.

The win improved Westwood to 9-6 on the season.

Westwood 5, Fayetteville City 3

The Lady Rockets followed up on last Monday’s home win with another one last Tuesday.

Westwood recorded seven hits over the course of the game, with two each for Prater and Wild. Chavis, Kapise and Kehely each had one hit.

Wild was credited with two of the team’s three RBI, with Kehely adding one.

Kehely also pitched a complete game, striking out 12 and holding Fayetteville City to four hits, three runs and seven walks across all seven innings.

Lady Rockets hold off Cannon

Westwood returned to action for the first time since March 18 with a home game against Cannon County last Monday evening. After putting up four runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Lady Rockets were able to preserve their lead and pick up a 6-4 win.

Westwood connected on nine hits over the course of the game, led by Wild and Kehely with two each. Chavis, Prater, Kapise, Harper Hiles and Izzy Sartain each had one hit.

Kehely was credited with two of the team’s four RBI. Hiles and Kapise had one RBI each.

Kehely also pitched a complete game, striking out 16 and holding Cannon County to four hits, four runs and four walks across all seven innings.

CCMS holds on to beat DeKalb The Lady Raiders were back on the field for the first time since March 20 last Monday evening. Traveling to DeKalb County, Coffee County did just enough to return home with a 2-0 victory.

Campbell had the Lady Raiders’ only hit.

Campbell also went the distance in the circle, striking out six and holding DeKalb County to two hits through all five innings.

Westwood takes care of Community

The Rockets opened their week with a high-scoring home game last Monday.

Hosting Community, Westwood brought in five runs in the bottom of the first inning on the way to an 11-8 victory in front of their home crowd at Fred Deadman Park.

Stewart, Francisco, Holder, Vernon, Brock Christian and Luke Christian each had one hit for a team total of six.

The Rockets finished the game with five RBI, including two each for Holder and Luke Christian. Vernon had one.

Brock Christian got it started on the mound, coming off in the top of the third inning with four strikeouts, one hit, four runs and five walks. Luke Christian took his place, adding six strikeouts, seven hits, four runs and two walks until getting pulled in the top of the seventh. Levengood came on to close it out, striking out one more batter on the way to the win.

CHS goes 0-3 at Smoky Mountain Cup

Coffee County boys’ soccer traveled to Gatlinburg for a trio of tournament matches over the weekend.

The Red Raiders fell in all three contests, starting with a 2-0 loss to Cane Ridge last Thursday. They went on to fall 2-1 to Mount Vernon (Atlanta) last Friday, before falling 5-0 to Halls last Saturday.
