Coffee County softball was back on the road for a Class 4A District 6 rematch against Shelbyville Thursday night.

Up 4-1 after three innings, three Golden Eaglette runs in the bottom of the sixth cost the Lady Raiders on the way to a 6-4 loss.

Coffee County finished the game with seven hits, including two each for Ella Arnold and Kamryn Hoback. Raelyn Wainwright, Haleigh Skipper and Maddi Scott each had one.

Wainwright and Hoback each had one RBI for a team total of two.

Scott pitched a complete game, wrapping it up with six strikeouts, 10 hits, six runs and two walks.

The loss put Coffee County at 14-12 overall and 4-3 within district play.

CHS dominates Cookeville on Senior Night

Coffee County’s offense unloaded on Cookeville once again on the way to securing the regular-season sweep Wednesday night.

Hosting the Lady Cavaliers this time around, the Lady Raiders took off early on the way to an 11-1 Senior Night victory. The win followed Coffee County’s 15-0 shutout victory over the district foe in Cookeville on March 30.

Coffee County got it rolling in the bottom of the first inning when Lily Norman came to the plate with Skipper on third base and Wainwright’s courtesy runner Bailey Hale on second. Norman went on to send the ball out to left field, bringing home both runners in the process. Norman’s courtesy runner Cara Newlin made it home shortly after on a wild pitch to make it a 3-0 game.

The Lady Raiders continued to take advantage of Cookeville’s mistakes in the bottom of the third inning, starting with Skipper running home from third base on an error at the plate.

Up next to bat was Madison Waller, with Taylor McBride in as a courtesy runner for Yeidy Cruz on second. Waller proceeded to knock a ground ball out to center field for a single, bringing McBride around the bases to make it a 5-0 Coffee County lead. The Lady Raiders went on to add five more runs from there, finishing the inning ahead by 10.

After keeping the Lady Cavaliers off the board once again in the top of the fourth, Hoback made it an 11-0 Coffee County lead in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run over the center field fence.

Cookeville avoided a shutout with a run in the top of the fifth, but the game ended via slaughter rule after four-and-a-half innings.

Coffee County finished the game with eight hits, led by Hoback with two. Wainwright, Cruz, Norman, Waller, Arnold and Harper Jernigan each had one hit.

Norman was credited with two of the team’s six RBI. Arnold, Waller, Hoback and Jernigan had one RBI each.

Norman pitched the first two innings, striking out five batters while holding Cookeville to two walks on the way to securing the win. Cruz came into the circle in the top of the third, adding four strikeouts, one hit and one walk over two innings. Scott closed it out in the top of the fifth inning, finishing it off with one strikeout, one hit and one run.
