Conference Center road to get new streetlights

The Manchester Finance Department voted unanimously during the April 21 meeting to fund new street lighting on Hospitality Boulevard near the Manchester Event and Welcome Center.

Mayor Joey Hobbs said the streetlights near the facility that was formerly named the Manchester Coffee County Conference Center are owned by the city, with many not working.

“This will fix it all back and replace the missing poles,” Hobbs said.

Funds for the project, $39,137, will come from the Street Department’s lighting budget.

Also approved by the committee was an additional spend of $56,971 for the instillation of the wastewater plant’s bar screen that was recently purchased by the city.

The $534,600 price tag for the multi-rake bar screen which will filter debris outside the plant headworks to limit what comes into the plant did not include instillation. The revision will go before the Board of Mayor and Aldermen at the May meeting.

Additionally approved was an executive action of the mayor to spend approximately $94,000 on an emergency repair to the wastewater plant’s clarifier which recently had a catastrophic failure.
