Citizens foil grand theft auto

Awould-be thief was chased down and detained after he allegedly tried to steal a truck on Springdale Drive in Manchester in an incident lawmen suspect was not his first rodeo.

The suspect, Jimmy Ray Dyer Jr., 54, is charged with several counts of burglary and theft. His charges come after the would-be victims of a vehicular theft on Springdale Drive were about to chase him down as he tried to flee the scene of the crime.

It was discovered Dyer had broken the back window of a truck at the residence in an attempt to steal it. Dyer was arrested and a set of Toyota keys were found on his person during a search. A Toyota was found minutes later near the scene of the Springdale crime and it was determined that vehicle had been stolen in Grundy County. There was also a tractor and seen spreader taken from the site of the Grundy County theft.

When asked about the string of thefts, Dyer claimed to have no memory of how he even got to Springdale Drive. Lawmen noted that Dyer appeared to be very intoxicated.
