MASON

Joe Elliott Mason was born on Dec. 17, 1948, in Coffee County, the son of the late James Stanley Mason, Sr., and Bessie Powers Mason. Joe passed away peacefully at home at age 77 on April 26, 2026, surrounded by family. Joe proudly served four years in the US Navy on the USS Shenandoah. Joe worked at AEDC for 35 years and retired in 2010. He spent much of his life devoted to cattle farming, taking great pride in maintaining his land. He was known for his early mornings, often found at daybreak tending to his farm. Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church in Manchester. He was known for his warm spirit, love of friendship, and laughter. Joe enjoyed hosting gatherings, especially large cookouts with friends playing music around a bonfire into the night. He had an infectious spirit that brought people together, and he was happiest when surrounded by laughter and good company. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by sisters, Phyllis Ann Swan and Cherry Gail Russ, and brother, James Stanley Mason, Jr. “Brother.” He is survived by his wife, Sandra Mason, and son, Ryan Mason, his brother-in-law, Bobby Swan, his sister-in-law, Janice Mason, as well as several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life for family and friends will be scheduled for a future date.
