CHS baseball falls in extras to Cookeville in district tournament

Coff ee County baseball’s 2026 season came to an end last Saturday afternoon.

Facing off against Cookeville in the Class 4A District 6 tournament for the second time in as many days, the two teams remained locked in a 1-1 contest until the 10th inning, when the Cavaliers added a run to defeat the Red Raiders 2-1.

Davis McKenzie connected on three of the team’s seven hits, with Boone Floyd, Elijah Vernon, Carter Bell and Jaxon Pruitt adding one each.

Floyd had the team’s lone RBI.

McKenzie got it started on the mound, coming off in the eighth inning with three strikeouts, four hits, one run and two walks. Isaiah Deadman took his place, adding three strikeouts, one hit, one run and one walk.

With the loss, Coffee County ended the season with a 19-14 record and a 5-6 record in district play.

Cookeville 4, Coffee County 0

The Red Raiders began their weekend district tournament slate with a loss to the Cavaliers last Friday.

McKenzie, Floyd, Vernon, Preston Steele and Matt Moore each had one hit for a team total of five.

Leiton Yancer went the distance on the mound, finishing the game with seven strikeouts, six hits, four runs and two walks.
