The Coffee County Historical Society will next meet at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Coffee County Courthouse located at 101 W. Fort St., Manchester.
The event will include a presentation by Bonnie Gamble about the operation of schools in Coffee County between 1905 and 1944. Gamble utilized historic school board meeting minute documents to conduct the research for this program.
The Historical Society is currently planning for two new exhibits for the New Year. The first of these will feature the history of Black citizens in Coffee County. This exhibit will emphasize the accomplishments of the men and women who taught in a segregated school system. The second new exhibit for the year will debut in March, with a focus on Women’s History. This exhibit will feature many prominent women from throughout the history of Coffee County. Those wishing to share any historic artifacts, photographs or information are encouraged to contact the Coffee County Historical Society at cchs1969@att.net
