On Monday, the Coffee Middle Lady Raiders scored three runs in the seventh inning to beat Lincoln County 5-4, and the Westwood Lady Rockets lost to Community 12-3 on Eighth Grade Night.

CCMS Lady Raiders: 5, Lincoln County Lady Falcons: 4

The visiting Lady Falcons would score first with a run in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Raiders would answer back in the bottom of the inning as Kenzie Shelton scored on a Briley Jernigan flyout to right field to tie the score at 1-1.

Coffee County would take a 2-1 lead in the third inning as Shelton scored on a passed ball.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Lincoln County would score three times in the fifth inning to retake the lead, 4-2.

The Lady Raiders would remain behind by two runs until the bottom of the seventh inning.

Coffee County would cut the lead to one as Paige Chilton scored on a single by Shelton to make it a 4-3 ball game.

With two runners in scoring position, Briley Jernigan hit a line drive that was mishandled by the Lady Falcon defense, allowing Shelton to score her third run of the game to tie the score at 4-4, and Bailey Hale to score the game winning run, as the Lady Raiders completed the comeback, 5-4.

Kenzie Shelton had two hits and one RBI, Briley Jernigan had one hit and one RBI, Bailey Hale had three hits, Genna Sadler had two hits and Paige Chilton had one hit for the Lady Raiders.

Jernigan put in the most work in the circle, pitching five innings, allowing four runs on five hits, committing one error, striking out five batters and walking two on 82 pitches. Briley Apicella pitched two innings in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out one batter on 20 pitches.

The Lady Raiders are now 9-2 on the season, having won six straight games, and their next contest will be at home against Blackman on Tuesday, Apr. 16 at 5:00 pm.

Westwood Lady Rockets: 3, Community Viqueens: 12

Before their contest with Community, the Westwood Lady Rockets took time to honor their five eighth grade players: Kylie Evans, Shaylee Meadows, Lucero Rosendo, Maddi Scott and Addi Teal.

However, the visiting Community Viqueens spoiled the festivities.

The Viqueens had control right from the start, compiling a 4-0 lead through the first two innings of play.

Westwood would cut the lead in half in the third inning, as Annie Carden scored on a triple by Shaylee Meadows and Meadows scored on a single by Kylie Evans to make the score 4-2.

Community would answer back in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring three runs in each inning to lead 10-2.

The Lady Rockets would score once more in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Viqueens went on to win 12-3.

Westwood is now 4-5-1 on the season and will host Huntland for a double header on Wednesday, Apr. 17.
