Red Raiders beat Tigers for second straight win

The CCCHS Red Raiders won their second game of the Crethan Hansert Classic over the Central Magnet Tigers 10-3 on Friday night.

Coffee County would open the scoring with a plethora of runs in the bottom of the first inning, including the first score of the game by Cole Pippenger on a line drive single by Nate Rutledge and three more runs to give the Red Raiders a 4-0 lead.

Pippenger would add another two runs in the second inning on a two-run home run and Blake Hillis doubled to send Rutledge in for a score to make it a 7-0 game through the first two innings of play.

The Tigers would finally get on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning, but the Red Raiders would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the period to make the score 9-2.

Each team would score one more run apiece and the Red Raiders held on for the 10-3 win.

Nate Rutledge had four hits and three RBIs, Cole Pippenger and Blake Hillis each had two hits with two RBIs, Trey Turner and Brady Daugherty each had one hit and one RBI, Davis McKenzie had two hits and Isaiah Deadman had one hit for the Red Raiders.

Bird Fellers earned the win on the mound, pitching four innings, allowing two runs on five hits, committing two errors, striking out three batters and walking one on 53 pitches. Isaiah Deadman and Cason Shores each made a relief appearance.

The Coffee County Red Raiders improved their record to 12-13-1 with the win and will return to district play against Columbia Central on Monday, Apr. 22 at 6:30 pm.
