Lady Raiders shutout Harris on Eighth Grade Night

The CCMS Lady Raiders celebrated Eighth Grade Night on Monday with their eighth straight win in a 13-0 victory over Harris for a season sweep of the Eaglettes.

Coffee County would dominate the game right from the start, scoring six runs in the first inning of play.

The Lady Raiders would score once more in the bottom of the second inning, then erupt for another six runs in the third inning, including a double by Kenzie Shelton that drove in two runs, a single by Briley Jernigan that scored two and a Kiera Byers single that sent in another two runs.

The Lady Raiders would win the game in a 13-0 mercy rule.

Kenzie Shelton, Briley Jernigan and Kiera Byers each had two runs and two RBIs, Bailey Hale had two hits and one RBI, Paige Chilton had one hit and one RBI and Allie Raines along with Payton Thomas each had one hit for the Lady Raiders.

Briley Apicella would get the win in the circle, pitching three innings, allowing just one hit, striking out six batters and walking one on 37 pitches.

After the game, a ceremony was held to honor the eighth grade members of the softball team: Kiera Byers, Bailey Hale, Allie Raines and Payton Thomas.

The Lady Raiders will look to continue their winning streak when they travel to Lincoln County on Tuesday, Apr. 23 at 5:00 pm.
